Kennedy walked toward the dining hall quickly, not even having the slightest problem in her 4-inch heels. She had asked Natalie to meet her early in the dining hall to help her make finishing touches on the decorations, and so they'd have enough time to go back for pictures with the 6X, the elite clique at Glenbrook Preparatory Academy. Homecoming was their dance. No matter what, the 6X went in a group, with no one else ever invited into their group. Natalie was going with Nick, as expected, Kennedy with Travis, and Valentina with Brad. Kenny wore a gorgeous light pink knee-length dress with copper-colored heels, and her hair in a fancy up-do. An outfit only Kennedy Logan herself could pull off.
The Homecoming game was last night against Waverly Prep, their rivals. And Glenbrook won, of course. The amount of people in Glenbrook’s stands last night was insane. Waverly brought over 8 buses of student fans alone. Most of Glenbrook’s student body was there, as well as many parents of football players, cheerleaders and other Homecoming court members. It was an absolutely gorgeous night. But for some reason, the Homecoming game wasn't as great as it usually is. Maybe she was still getting over the whole Gabe thing, hooking up with a teacher and getting caught by your best friend can’t be good for one’s conscience. Or maybe her mind was on the fact that her best friend was a drug addict. No one knew, about either of the things, except Natalie and the only other junior 6X member, Brad Locke. Therefore she put on a smile and got over it. It's what she did. If it weren't for her reputation, and position of social chair, she probably wouldn't even be going to the dance. But she couldn't miss the Homecoming dance. Plus, Nat and/or Val would kill her for missing it.
As social chair, it was Kennedy’s job to plan and make school functions happen. She usually completed this task with flying colors. She entered the dining hall, walked to Natalie and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, set down a box, and walked up to the stage where the more-famous-than-usual band, The Killers, were setting up. After finding out that the band's guitarist, Dave Keunig and drummer, Ronnie Vannucci Jr., had graduated from Glenbrook, she asked them to perform at prom this year. Unfortunately they were going to be on tour, but she managed to lock them down for Homecoming. She hadn't told anyone who the band was going to be, and was so excited to see the look on everyone's faces when she introduced them tonight. She walked up to the stage and introduced herself, remaining perfectly calm even though she was face-to-face with an incredibly famous band. She shook the lead singer, Brandon Flowers, hand and kissed his cheek before moving on to Dave, then to the bass guitarist Mark Stroemer, and finally Ronnie and introducing herself and thanking them for coming. They'd barely had time to shower and change before getting there because of their late flight, so they were doing a quick sound check now. She said something inaudible to them as they played a quick tidbit of a song, checking that everything was set up perfectly. She called Natalie up to the stage and introduced her to the band as well before going over how she was going to introduce them, etc etc. There would be a DJ for when the band wasn't playing, and she'd already briefed him on what to do that night. She went back over to the last box of centerpieces she'd brought with her, and placed them on the last few empty tables with help from Natalie. She smiled at her when the room was completely ready, a smile bigger than any smile seen on her face in weeks.
